Alcohol isn't the problem. Maybe it never was. Alcoholism is the symptom of the problem. It is a sign of unhappiness.
Very few of us actually ever decide that we are going to abuse drugs or alcohol and become a drug addict or alcoholic. Usually it begins in a very innocent and seemingly enjoyable way.
We used alcohol as an escape from the problems, pressures and tension of everyday life. We used alcohol to cover up feelings of insecurity and guilt, and as a substitute for personal relationships, challenging work, and self-fulfillment.
And when shyness or low self-confidence was the problem, we used alcohol as a "cure" to overcome fears.
BUT.. .Alcohol is only a TEMPORARY SOLUTION--and it often makes a situation worse !
The plain simple truth, whether you want to hear it or not, is Alcohol can not solve your problems. Only you can !
Sobriety, does not promise to solve your life's problems. But when sober you can see how to live without drinking "one day at a time."
Stay away from that "first drink." If there is no first one, there cannot be a tenth one.
And when we get rid of alcohol, we find that life became much more manageable.
